Do You Make These Mistakes In English?

This was an old headline that sold a lot of mail order English courses.  It's one of the top 100 head lines.  The formula is..

Do You Make These Mistakes In  __________?

So it can be anything.  "Do You Make These 7 Mistakes In English?"

" Do you Make These 3 Mistakes While on a Date?"

"Which of these 6 mistakes are you making in the kitchen?"

You get the point.  It's a good headline and you should play with it a while.  Apply it to your business.  Headlines do not have to be only written, they can be the first words out your mouth during a presentation.

From, "How may I help You?" to "Welcome to the best book store on this earth, we just got in the new Harry Porter story and we have 4 left.  If you need assistance, my name is Pat, Thank you for visiting today"

You see the power of headlines?

So Do You Make These Mistakes In English?

Affect vs Effect

Not a big deal if your talking but if your writing…well lets just say I used to flip a coin and just go with the one that Looked good.

When you affect a situation, you have an effect on it.

When I learned good communication, the effect was my income doubled.

Effect, the word effect can have a the in front of it, while the word affect cant.

I hope you won't make the affect, effect mistake in your writing anymore.  And if you just can't get it, then find two words you can use instead and move on with your life.
