Many business people often complained that they do not have time for a lot of things. Although some of these complaints are meritorious, there are actually many business people who could have had a lot of time to spare had they known how to manage their affairs effectively. If you are one of those business people who waste their time doing unnecessary things, you better start learning some time management skills and become more productive. Learn divide you time among different task to accomplish more. For instance, you need to give longer and continuous time to your major task and only give a few minutes or an hour to smaller task. Do not spend more time on a certain task than you really should. As much as possible, stick to your schedule and be time conscious.
Time management skills is not just about scheduling your affairs and setting your priorities but it is also about managing the quality of your working hours. Always remember that the quality of your working hours will affect the amount of work that you will be able to accomplish at the end of the day. To have good quality working hours, you need to learn to control interruptions and disruptions on your work especially during peak hours. Always remember that interruptions in your work can throw you off balance and it will take you a few minutes to refocus your attention to the task on hand. If you are in the middle of something very important, hang up the phone or and lock the door. You will get things done faster if you are not interrupted.
Time management skills also involve the art of delegating tasks. As a business person, you must learn to delegate some of your task to your staff. For instance, if you have a secretary, let your secretary make the calls to set your appointments. Unless you really need to talk to someone about some urgent matters, your secretary can take your calls and messages while you do something more important.
